I Tried To Write A Poem

I tried to write a poem
I couldn’t find the words
I sat and felt the sunshine
And listened to the birds.

I could talk about the passion,
The knowledge and the care
The support that mothers feel
From having someone there.

Looking at the photos
Reading comments made
Sharing good and tough times
Put doubters in the shade.

Giving and receiving
Support and so much more
Gently helping others
To grow and then to soar

I realised as I sat there
With the birds and summer sun
I had described a Doula
My words, my poem was done.
