My name is Sam and I am currently a mentored post natal doula based in Puttenham, between Guildford and Farnham and near Godalming. I have an eight year old daughter and a black lab, as well as a wonderful husband!
The MummaBaby Space post natal care offers a positive and safe environment for a mother to heal and adjust after child birth, whether it be the first time or the fifth! As a post natal doula I feel strongly that a mother should not feel rushed to recover, but instead, savour this precious time to bond with her new baby, while feeling nurtured and nourished. If mummy is happy, baby is happy and they can grow together to enjoy this time, feeling empowered and embracing the ups and downs.
The months after child birth can often be overwhelming, lonely and frustrating. A post natal doula can help stay on top of things while Mum adjusts to a new rhythm and a new dynamic, providing a few hours rest and relief, with no judgment or pressure.
As part of my post natal support, initially I like to explore what a clients ideal fourth trimester would be like, making a rough post partum recovery plan. This can include cooking healthy and reviving, lactose fuelling meals and snacks, as well as sitting, chatting and supporting breast feeding and any other feeding choices, signposting with any mental health concerns, informing Mum of other local support and baby services and looking after baby while Mummy rests, sleeps and showers.
MummaBaby Space also co-hosts The Mother Space, a mother and baby group from birth to six months. We meet monthly at my home and it is a cosy space for mums to come and chat, connect, bond, relax and focus on themselves for an hour and a half, not forgetting a piece of cake and a hot cup of tea!
I also specialise with any mothers who may have been affected by cancer pre pregnancy, during pregnancy or just after birth. After three breast cancer diagnosis, two with a baby and then toddler, I have a deep understanding of the complexities of this situation and have a lot of experience with self care and wellbeing.
I am qualified as a baby carrying peer supporter and I am also learning bone closing massage, a beautiful healing ritual for any mother six weeks after childbirth. In addition I have done courses in post natal mental health, understanding newborns and I am registered with Doula UK and have an active profile on The Luna Hive network.
