Recognised Birth & Postnatal Doula
I am a mother of two wonderful children, I moved to the UK in 2009 from Israel. I myself had two natural births of which one of them was a water birth in the UK. I believe and respect that each woman has the birth that is right for her. I was very fortunate to know early on in my teens what I wished to do in my life and that was to support pregnant women with their births. I studied nursing for four years in Israel finishing with honours and became a midwife. I started working in a high risk pregnancy unit and within a year I applied to midwifery school and I became a midwife in 2007. I have experience of working in a high risk pregnancy unit as well as gynaecology and postnatal departments and have supported many women giving birth (as a midwife).
After moving to the UK I was devastated to learn that due to bureaucracy I would not be able to practice as a midwife in this country. I decided to become a doula which will fulfil my calling in supporting women in childbirth. Even as a midwife I saw that support of the labouring woman as being the most important part of being in the delivery room __ and this is what a doula does: she provides much needed support __ both for the birthing women and her partner during the antenatal, birth and postnatal periods.
I believe that each woman is unique as well as her baby and birth. Each woman wishes for herself a birth that is right for her, her partner and their baby. I would like to help you to achieve this! I believe that women have great strength in them. Your body knows how to give birth and your baby knows how to be born. It is your birth and my aim is to provide you with a warm and protective environment and to help you as much as I can in achieving the birth you wish for yourself, a healthy and empowering birth.
As I feel it is very important for you to choose a doula you feel most comfortable with, I would love to meet you for an initial meeting (no charge) to get to know each other If you decide to choose me as your doula we would meet at least twice before the birth to talk about your wishes and provide you with information that can help you in preparing for the birth as well as allow you to make informed decisions. I would be available by phone or email throughout and I would be on call for you from 38 weeks 24/7. I would accompany you throughout your labour and stay until you are settled, your baby has fed and mostly you feel it is ok for me to go. I will also, visit you at least once after the birth.
As a postnatal doula I can help with breastfeeding support I am a breastfeeding consultant and volunteer in my local trust . I can also help you with early care of babies which for some women is daunting. I would help you get the rest you need and care for the little things that may make you restless. I would be there in order for you to do what you do best – be the mum.
During the night, I’m happy to cover the feeds, changing and settling of your baby so you can catch up on a much needed sleep. If you are breastfeeding I will bring the baby to you for the feed, and then I would settle the baby so your sleep is disturbed as little as possible. If you wish, I can give the baby expressed milk so you can have a more undisturbed sleep.
