Mentored Birth Doula
Hi my name is Desiree. I live in Basingstoke with my husband, 2 children and our crazy pug, Gizmo. I am passionate about birth and about women having and making informed choices. Can birth be a positive, wonderful experience? Absolutely. Whether you’re planning a homebirth or want ‘I want all the drugs’ kinda birth or even an elective caesarean – my role is to support you whichever way you like. Your choice. Your birth. Your way. This is your birth journey and I’d be privileged to share it with you.
All women have the ability to have a positive birthing experience, one that you can look forward to, with confidence.
Having a doula can certainly provide you with the care and support you may need to make your decisions and have your voice heard, this includes having the support antenatally so that you feel prepared; being with you throughout your labour and birth and then supporting you as you ease into life with a new baby (or babies!!)
Aside from being a doula and Hampshire Area Rep for Doula UK, I am also an active service user at my local Hampshire MSLC (Maternity Service Liaison Committee) which exists to improve maternity services for women, babies and birth partners and I also volunteer at my local postnatal ward as a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter.
I completed my training through Nurturing Birth and as part of my Continued Professional Development (CPD) I regularly read Midwifery journals and publications as well as attending conferences, study days and open forums to enhance my knowledge and keep up with current research.
“Desiree is a very warm, calming and smiley person. She is really down to earth and homely which drew me to her instantly. She provided hands on support with me during labour and really listened to my needs. I think she makes the perfect doula and I would have her again if I had another baby” Antonietta, mum to baby Max
“She reassured me that she wasn’t there to take my place” Oliver, dad to baby Max
“My husband went into a state of decline which surprised me for our second baby but it was understandable because our first labour ended in me being rushed into theatre. Desiree was awesome as she kept reassuring him, I don’t know how she does it but she has the unique ability to remain calm in the midst of chaos, thus keeping those around her calm too.” Michelle, mum to baby D
“I cannot recommend Desiree highly enough. She supported and encouraged me through a very challenging 2nd birth in 2013. By equipping me with knowledge and options, I felt very confident and relaxed during my 2nd pregnancy. I have never encountered a Doula before or after Des – all I can say is, after my experience with her, the benchmark for Doulas is exceptionally high! Thank you, Des, for all you have done for us” Linda, mum to baby Paige
“Your support was fantastic! I can still hear your voice cheering me on” Gemma, mum to baby H
